We’ve had a Bit more heat, and a bit more rain. I’ve done more harvesting than anything, here’s a round up.
Month: August 2019
Tomatoes, blueberries, and beans
Plus a zucchini and some peppers
Yes we can can
We canned a bunch of green and runner beans a couple of days ago. This was about a full drawer of veggies (I’d estimate 6lb, one big Pyrex bowl of runners, a bigger one of green beans). This was roughly 4 days of harvest- a glut!
Long pieces are easier to pack.
Weeding and feeding
It rained last night, and its nice and cool/gloomy today so we got some work done. Weeded a lot, and I put some vegetable food on the tomatoes and peppers.
0@..?
Got more tomatoes, pulled most of the onions, more beans of course. ? one tiny okra
Took a break
It was a mistake. This was the haul yesterday.
Abundance! 2 days since picking. First Roma tomatoes . Bt
I turned some runner beans into a puree (boil in salt water 4-5 minutes, blend with butter and garlic powder.) it was delicious.
Today’s haul is getting turned into mock Apple crumble.
Artichokes are full of bees
Progress
Undillybeans
A couple of days ago we pickled green beans and a tester of scarlet runner beans (with the same recipe). Success! Today we did another round of 6 mixed jars (10 jars total) because the beans are out of control.
That’s just today.
It looks like the sweet spot for the pickles, using this recipe is ~3.5 lbs. That makes 6 jars of beans with 3c each water and 5% white vinegar. 3.5 lbs of beans is roughly twice what’s shown in that picture. That gets us well below the 4.2 ideal ph.
Pulling radishes
I had another big haul today (mostly squash) and pulled some onions. First Roma tomatoes are starting to get color.
Pulled the rest of the radish and turnip plants from upper c and reseeded with beets and carrots.
