I’ve been a little unsteady with a flare up, but I taped up today to do a little light check on the garden.

We did a lot of work today. Weeding, transplanting, planting, p digging out the septic…
I transplanted the tomatoes and peppers with potting soil. They did perk up a little after I added better soil and fertilizer, hopefully this gets them back on track.
Planted squashes everywhere (mainly in the slope and lower bed). Moved barbeque rosemary and globe artichokes. Fertilized many things, blueberries, onion beds, lower garlic bed, Rhodies and hydrangea.
Here’s some progress
And some Randy lizards
It’s chilly but sunny, and we put some onions in the ground. P tilled and put compost down. I put onions into south a and west d.
I got my hands on some onion starts (labeled “transplants”) at the grange today. Hopefully I’ll be able to get them planted this weekend.
It started snowing on Feb 3. We got about 18 inches in the following storms, which finally stopped dumping by Feb. 12. Today is 16 days later. That’s the state of the yard.
It’s practically balmy today at 47degrees, but you can hear chainsaws everywhere because so many trees came down. I’m still waiting on the snow to melt so I can see what survived.
I ordered a bunch of seeds today- unfortunately I can’t find onion sets, so I’ll have to try to find some locally.
I’m tempted to take a blade to the blackberry when the snow melts. It’s all crushed now so I wonder if I can murder it while it’s weak… (;
I’m excited to use the new path and soon to be finished patio out back.
This was my first day harvesting since my surgery a week ago. (Might have overdone it… /:)
Lots of lovely nova tomatoes and peppers. Def doing those from seed again next year. We are now talking about our canning options, because… The kitchen is already full of ripe guys.
Also got a bunch of green and yellow beans. I went through and cleaned up the plants a bunch, pulling excess leaves off.
We’ve had some okra and peas.
This was the second-chance plant, and it has given us much
Everything else is a little overgrown, because I’ve not been able to harvest or eat much. I wish wish wish we had a larger freezer for this stuff.
It’s been hot and very smoky here, but this morning we had a little rain and the air is almost breathable. The garden is looking a-ok
Got a good amount of food out today.
Cooked up a yummy low-fat lunch to starve my gallbladder.
Dude, I love arugula.
That was a few days ago at 4:30. So much smoke that the sun turned red
I fertilized the tomatoes, squash, and blueberries a couple of days ago.
3 days since last harvest. A feast!
Also, first bun alert in two years… In the Brussels sprout bed…. Please leave some for me!
It’s been HOT and I’ve been watering my seed beds everyday. The Brussels sprouts, beets, carrots, and leeks are showing nothing, but I have arugula and cilantro popping up
Arugula
Cilantro in pot. I ran out of packaged seeds, so I pulled out the ones I dried last year for coriander- they are viable! Yay!
There’s also basil popping up inside from seed.
Pulled some more onions to cure, and a hand full of squash and a couple of snap peas (they never make it inside)
Also not inside is this first yellow bean. It’s inside my tummy.
more yellow and green beans on the way, though!
More progress shots. Red ribbon tomato almost ripe- have had a couple of sungold already. Both are happier than this tomato plant growing out of the side of whole foods.
I had a crazy raptor day last week- saw a bald eagle making Red (the redtailed hawk) mad, saw 3 osprey over the studio, and a group of swallows chasing a kestral across the field. One of them left us a little pellet filled with scales and bones on the deck.
Here’s our usual morning soundtrack (plus truck traffic, usually)
