Squash in waterwalls
Bigger pots and new seeds
Planted okra and squash seeds and moved some seedlings into bigger pots.
Cilantro, spinach, arugula, and dill all coming up in the greenhouse.
Cleanup and greenhouse update
I cleaned up the squash and ground cherries today. We’re going to have our first freeze this week.
Also, I cleaned up the greenhouse plants a little. It looks like the pepper plants are still making little peps (with hand pollination.)
Tomatoes are still ripening up inside
Harvests
I haven’t posted for every harvest, but here’s what I’ve been picking every 2 or three days.
I’ve been cooking yum stuff
And tonight we pickled beans and csa cucumbers (for fridge)
New recipes
This week I made up a couple of new recipes to use up some CSA veggies.
Patty pan soup
The first I got no photos of- but it’s delicious. I roasted patty pan squash (4 parts) carrots (1 pt) potatoes (2 pt) with some onion, then stewed them with a broth, basil, garlic, paprika and chili flakes. Then I used the immersion blender. Great thick soup hot or cold.y
“Lemony” Kale Pesto pasta
The second recipe is also VERY good. I sautéed some garlic and chili flakes on olive oil then let kale and sorrel wilt in there. Then I put that, fresh basil, parmigiana, and frozen garlic in the food processor. It tastes really yummy and I’m going to put it on pasta. —- needs lots of olive oil for pasta
Today tomato!
We are really enjoying the beaver lodge plum tomatoes and they are ripening quickest. Also got a good number of scarlet runner beans and Romano beans today
Garlic and onion day
Got a nice little hall of veggies.
And cleaned up the garlic and onions. Braided the soft necks.
Today was ok
First Roma! First couple of beaver lodge (yum!)
Planted favas in south D.
Beans and flowers
Planted beans and nasturtium and marigold. I’ll pop probably put the remaining tomatoes and peppers out on Monday or Tuesday. Also transplanted little zucchini starts in the squash bed, and direct seeded a few delicata next to the starts that don’t look great. (Note for next year- don’t keep them in the greenhouse so long!) I put marigold in the fava bed to hopefully fight the black flies, and nasturtium in the bean beds. Also planted a few more peas (peas are FINALLY blossoming).
It’s been a dreary and cold spring. They say 10degrees cooler than normal. I think the kale and beets and carrots like it, though.
